Plaza and Baena's family have issued a joint statement regarding his death: "This is an unimaginable tragedy. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has offered support. Please respect our privacy during this time."

The filmmaker was best known for working on projects such as The Little Hours, Life after Beth and Joshy. Plaza is best known for her roles in Parks and Recreation, and The White Lotus.
