Flog It! star Michael Baggott alarmed fans with a health update

Flog It! star Michael Baggott has alarmed fans by revealing he has been confined to a bed in hospital.

The TV star has appeared on the BBC antiques auction reality show from 2017 - appearing as an expert who gives advice and tips to the civilian contestants. The show was cancelled by the BBC in 2020 after 17 years on the air - but old episodes remain available to watch via BBC iPlater.

Over the weekend, Michael alarmed fans on social media by sharing a string of videos of himself speaking into the camera of his phone from a hospital bed. In one video, the star said: "It's been a week now and I've been able to take fluids for two days. I was left without any water at all and have become badly dehydrated.

"For the last three days, I've been given a litre of water, which has been insufficient to stop me being dehydrated. The gaps between being given water have been 15 hours, 17 hours with no water, 12 hours with no water and currently 15 hours with no water intravenous."

He added: "I'm dying of thirst in a British NHS hospital and no one seems prepared to do anything about it. I want to say the nursing staff, the junior doctors here, have been the saving grace. They all want to help but they can't. The senior management and the senior doctors, who I never see, always refuse water, always refuse treatment.

"One told me yesterday If I don't buck up my ideas, in three weeks I'll never be able to walk again. Of course the junior staff told me that was nonsense, but it's symptomatic of the treatment in this place. All the staff are busting their gut to help you, the management and the senior surgeons are not."

He then updated fans further with a written clarification, where he wrote that he was in his "fifth bed bound week," before adding a new post on Sunday, saying that he feels "happier" and "more hopeful." In the video, he said: "Hydration at last, Radio 3 blaring and slightly happier, slightly more hopeful. Thank you for everybody who either came or sent a message. Hopefully the way back starts now."

Those that had been following his ordeal through his video updates were relieved to see Michael looking in better health in his most recent video post. In an encouraging post, one fan wrote: "You look a lot better, Michael. I hope you can get out soon. You seem like a fine bloke with brilliant expertise & one of the best Twitter presences going. Please DM if I can do anything for you when you’re out. A care package can be mailed, even if I’m not local."
