BBC News anchor Maryam Moshiri caught giving the middle finger

A BBC icon has hinted at having a racy tattoo during a news segment.

BBC News presenter Maryam Moshiri has won over a host of new fans after she accidentally gave the middle finger to the audience in a hilarious cock-up. Since then, the presenter has managed to go viral on several other occasions, most recently when she tried - and failed - to throw darts, in tribute to Luke Littler.

However, on Tuesday (January 7), Maryam set tongues wagging yet again as she presented The World Today on the BBC News Channel. The veteran broadcaster had been running viewers through the latest stories across the UK and around the world when she made a stark confession.

The channel had been airing a story surrounding the social acceptability of tattoos in visible places. In the report, journalists were speaking to passengers at London's Gatwick Airport after speaking to a man, who is able to show off his tattoos whilst working at a check-in desk.

As the report drew to a close, Maryam appeared on the screen once again, but appeared to have some fun with viewers. Sighing in front of the camera, she rhetorically asked: "Do I have any tattoos? Well let me just show you this..."

Maryam then proceeded to stand up from her chair and tilt her body to the right, grabbing her left hip in the process. She appeared to squeeze the left side of her body as her face went off-screen, leaving just the blue short-sleeved dress she was wearing visible.

However, while she was having a laugh with viewers, producers at the show had other ideas and interjected, ordering Maryam to sit back down. She joked: "Oh...I'm sorry, what did you say? Don't do it? Okay, sorry."

As she sat back down on her chair, she continued: "Meera, she's saying - she's shouting - 'Don't do it'. So let's not go there, let's not go there."

Taking a clip of her hilarious moment on-screen, Maryam shared the interaction with her 42k following on her X profile. She decided to continue on the joke in the caption, cheekily asking: "I wasn't really going to...was I?" before tagging producer Meera Thavasothy and adding the hashtag #justkidding.

Fans were quick to share in the laughter, while others were left confused and asking if she had in fact got a tattoo. One user hopped into the replies of the post to ask: "A tattoo of the Supermoon?" - a reference to when Maryam made a circle of her hands which was supposed to signify the Supermoon.

However, Maryam was keeping quiet on whether she does in fact have a tattoo, replying to the commenter: "Ha! Never said I had one," adding a crying-with-laughter emoji in the process. A second added: "After the famous finger gesture gesture, our dearest Maryam can give you out of the world surprises."
