Benzino is speaking out about becoming a grandfather.

Last week, his daughter Coi Leray, 27, and Trippie Redd, 25, kicked off the new year by announcing they are expecting their first child.

Although the father and daughter have been estranged for a while, Benzino appeared to be in good spirits during the preview of an upcoming episode of the We in Miami Podcast.

“I'm gonna be a grandfather,” said Benzino, 59, with a smile. “I just found out when everybody else found out.”

He continued, “It's gonna grow her up. I hope it does, because she'll finally get to know what it is to be a parent. She'll get to see firsthand what I was going through.”

The rapper and media mogul was also asked about whether or not Leray would allow him in the grandchild’s life.

“Our story, since it's been on the internet, has always been kind of, you know, a little bit awkward to say the least,” he admitted. “Nobody really understood my relationship with my daughter before she was a rap star.”

“Believe me, that baby gonna know its granddad,” Benzino added. “It's important for me to get my message to that baby regardless of whatever we going through. That ain't got nothing to do with the grandbaby. And like I said, she gonna want him to have that MVP, those morals, values, and principles, and that's gonna be his granddad. And you know Trippie's pops, and his mom.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Benzino said we would “love to holler” at Trippie Redd. However, this wasn’t the case before he and Leray announced their pregnancy.

“Back then I didn't wanna meet him. Anybody that's just fooling around with my daughter, I’m not even trying to meet him. But now he's having a child, so I would like to,” he said.

“Congratulations, you know, let him know that there's no type of animosity this way,” Benzino said of what he would tell Redd. “Granddad's here. I got nothing but love … in my heart.”

Last May, Leray wrote on her X account that she distanced herself from her father and wants no association with him or his actions.

Despite being on better terms during the release of her album Trendsetter, their relationship deteriorated in 2023, with Leray accusing Benzino of being “envious” of her success—a claim he denied.

"I want everybody to know I want nothing to do with anything my father has going on," Leray wrote on X at the time. "I haven’t spoken to him in over a year and I don’t condone or respect any of them interviews he got going on. I don’t respect his decisions and I really want nothing to do with him please dont (sic) even think of me when you see him."

She continued, "Sharing the same DNA and blood DOESN’T make us FAMILY . Loyalty , boundaries , respect , teaching , guidance , love , patience , encouragement MAKES US FAMILY."
