Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's recent period of relative peace has been disrupted by a controversial German documentary aired last week titled 'Harry - The Lost Prince'. The explosive programme, which placed their lives as international charity ambassadors under intense scrutiny, has reportedly left Meghan feeling deeply 'hurt' and 'betrayed', according to an insider speaking to OK!.

Featuring candid discussions with individuals such as ex-Metropolitan Police security officials, residents from the couple's Montecito neighbourhood—who criticised Meghan for not engaging locally—and even an old army comrade from Harry's stint in Afghanistan, the documentary was harshly critical. "Both Meghan and Harry feel the show is yet another one-sided take down of them and just want it all to stop," revealed the source.

They further reported: "It's like they can't escape their past and are still being judged on things that happened over five years ago but they know it gets people talking and makes money. Meghan feels hurt by a lot of people - but especially her neighbours, who she feels have betrayed her by telling people this, rather than offering friendship and support."

"It was hard for her to make this move and have the eyes of the world on them, so she needed some friends, but obviously she was quite guarded because of what she'd been through. Meghan is very wary of getting close to people and trusting them and this documentary has confirmed she was right."

Having relocated to the plush Montecito neighbourhood after their 2020 departure from Frogmore Cottage, the Sussexes occasionally offer rare peeks into their grand abode decked with massive stone fireplaces and adorned in neutral shades. Though glimpses are sparse, Harry and Meghan make it a point to guard Archie and Lillibet from public scrutiny, reports OK!.

Yet, this quest for privacy might be hampering their ability to forge local friendships. In a fresh documentary, neighbour Richard Mineards is featured commenting on the Sussexes' lavish lifestyle, remarking: "I personally don't think that Meghan is an asset to our community... She doesn't really go out or get involved with the community. Harry has to a certain extent, because he's quite jolly... but Meghan doesn't seem to get seen anywhere... And you don't see him either."

Despite these sharp criticisms, it's suggested that Meghan has sound reasons for maintaining a close-knit inner circle, particularly with rumours swirling about her marriage.

Attending a high-profile Beverley Hills event last week, some press framed it as her further "professional separation" from Harry.

Harry made a jest of the circulating rumours earlier that day at the New York Times DealBook Summit, quipping: "apparently we've bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We've apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it's just like, what?"

When questioned if the constant public interest was beneficial, Harry confessed it was "hard to keep up with" and he tends to disregard it.

A source close to the couple revealed why they maintain a tight-knit circle: "There's no denying that Meghan doesn't have a large set of friends - but that's because she can't trust a lot of people. They've both been betrayed in the past, by closer friends and family members, so it's hard for her to make new friends and let people into her life."

"She isn't sure if people are being friendly for the right reasons. Meghan feels very safe when she's at home with Harry, her mum Doria and the kids and as much as she would like to have a bigger social circle, she knows she can't. It can be quite lonely but it will never be as bad as it was when she was in the UK, so that's a sacrifice she's willing to make."

The show was produced by seasoned Royal reporter Ulrike Grunewald, who expressed sympathy for the couple's British-based family after its creation.

"The most damaging allegations can only come from within. Revelations that shock the Royal family only come out of Prince Harry 's or Meghan Markle 's mouths", she recently told a newspaper.

Ulrike scrutinised the couple's charity, the Archewell Foundation, and was left unimpressed by her findings. The documentary revealed that donations to the Foundation plummeted from $13million in 2021 to a mere $2million in 2022, and alleged that the couple only officially dedicate one hour per week to their charitable work.

The programme also featured interviews with former security chiefs, including Dai Davies, ex-Head of Royal Protection and Divisional Commander in the Metropolitan Police. Davies criticised Harry for revealing in his book 'Spare' "that he had killed a number of Taliban" during his service in Afghanistan, arguing that this could make him a "potential target".

He also took issue with the couple's "carefully orchestrated" foreign trips, such as their recent visit to Colombia for the Archewell Foundation. "In Colombia, although there are very rich people there, the vast majority, 85 per cent or 90 per cent, are very poor," he noted.
