Actor Nick Frost has opened up about his difficult childhood which saw him deal with the deaths of close family members without properly dealing with the grief. “My mum was an alcoholic so my dad had spent a lot of his life looking after her,” he recalled.

“When my mum died my dad became free and it was like I had my best mate back and was happy again but five years later he got lung cancer. And nine months after that he was gone.

"I was angry with my mum for taking up so much of his life. And in between them, I lost my brother and sister and then my other brother died just after my dad died.

I didn’t deal with the grief at all. I never thought about how it was affecting me,” he told The Telegraph.

His mother had descended into alcoholism after this father's furniture business went bust when he was 16. This led the family to lose their home forcing them to move to a council estate.

Nick admits he felt anger towards his parents for many years. However, the actor concedes when he reached his forties he realised they were "just fallible people".

He revealed he went so far as to drive to Wales to his mother's grave so he could "have an argument with her at her graveside."

The Star Wars: Skeleton Crew star confessed shaking his fist at her gravestone in the pouring rain.

However it would take his own issues with addiction for him to really understand his mother.

He acknoowledged he hit a point where he realised he had to stop "trying to kill" himself.

Claiming he had never realised he could be happy he wanted to make a point by staying alive and not dying.

In a sad turn of events, Nick's mother didn't witness any of his success.

His father did attend the Shaun Of the Dead premiere though and Nick says he "loved it" and was "so proud".
