The next Taylor Sheridan Paramount+ series takes on the oil business in Texas, and also stars Demi Moore.
The oil business affects everything in the wild West Texas town of Landman, and Billy Bob Thornton is a key cog in that machine.
The second trailer for the next Taylor Sheridan series, this time about the oil business, focuses on Thornton’s Tommy Norris, a crisis manager in the oil industry, and peels back more of the relationships between the star-studded ensemble that includes Thornton, Jon Hamm, Demi Moore and Ali Larter.
“Men die, oil companies don’t,” says Tommy (Thornton) in the high-octane trailer (below), as he describes himself as “a divorced alcoholic with $500 thousand in debt” and pulls his son (Jacob Lofland) into the business.
Hamm stars in a recurring guest role as Monty Miller, a Texas oil industry titan with a long personal and professional relationship with Tommy; Moore plays Cami, the wife of another powerful oil man in Texas and friend of Norris; and Larter plays Norris’ ex-wife. Andy Garcia and Michael Peña also guest star.
Set in the proverbial boomtowns of West Texas, Landman is described as “a modern-day tale of fortune-seeking in the world of oil rigs.” Based on the 11-part podcast Boomtown from Imperative Entertainment and Texas Monthly, the series is “an upstairs/downstairs story of roughnecks and wildcat billionaires fueling a boom so big, it’s reshaping our climate, our economy and our geopolitics.”
Hamm previously said of the series, “It’s based on oil speculators and what they called ‘landmen,’ which are the guys that run around and try to acquire mineral rights and land rights in the hope of speculating and finding oil. There’s a lot of oil under the ground here in Texas and they are constantly trying to find it. It’s a story very well told, and I think it’s an interesting take on what happens when it comes to how we get the stuff that makes our cars and our lives and our planes and everything in our modern world go.”
Landman premieres Sunday, Nov. 17, on Paramount+ with two episodes. The rest of the 10-episode season rolls out weekly.
Landman adds to Sheridan’s Paramount+ stable of 1923, 1883, Mayor of Kingstown, Tulsa King, Lawman: Bass Reeves, Tulsa King — which will wrap its second season also on Nov. 17 — and Lioness, which just launched its second season release. Landman will also be rolling out alongside the highly anticipated season 5B episodes of Sheridan’s Yellowstone, which premiere on Sunday, Nov. 10.
Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie and James Jordan round out the Landman cast.
Landman is co-created by Yellowstone boss Sheridan and Christian Wallace, and is produced by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios and Bosque Ranch Productions. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution. Executive producers include Sheridan, David C. Glasser, David Hutkin, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, Wallace, Geyer Kosinski, Michael Friedman, Stephen Kay, Dan Friedkin and Jason Hoch for Imperative Entertainment, and J.K. Nickell and Megan Creydt for Texas Monthly. Peter Feldman is co-executive producer.
