Growing up, parents have a lot of rules, but people online can’t quite believe the reason why Katy Perry wasn’t allowed to start her day with Lucky Charms cereal.
Not just for breakfast, mind you. Singer Katy Perry has remarked she wasn’t ever allowed to to have the delightful treat.
Perry has been in the music scene for decades and has been pretty open about her upbringing, regularly highlighting that her parents maintained a very strict Christian household.
Her parents, Maurice Keith Hudson and Mary Christine Perry, worked as Pentecostal pastors for more than four decades so you can imagine this influenced how they raised all of their children.

Perry has spoken candidly about some of the difficulties she faced while growing up with her sister Angela and brother David.
She has said that much of her upbringing was centered around religion and this extended to what was in the cupboards as well as what words she was allowed to use for certain foods.
Speaking to Rolling Stone way back in 2010, she said: "I wasn’t able to say I was lucky, because my mother would rather us say that we were blessed, and she also didn’t like that lucky sounded like Lucifer.
“I wasn’t allowed to eat Lucky Charms, but I think that was the sugar. I think my mom lied to me about that one."
People on Reddit, on the Today I Learned board, discussed Perry’s previous comments and admitted they were shocked but not that surprised.

Some even recalled their own religion-influenced rules they had growing up.
One person commented: “The principal at my (religious) school cautioned us against being sincere because sincerity started with ‘sin’. None of it makes any sense.”
Another said: “My mom didn’t want me getting into Power Rangers because she thought it sounded like they were taking power away from God. You know, the omnipotent guy.”
A third commented: “I wish I could say that’s unbelievable, but growing up in the Deep South I knew plenty of fundie kids with this sort of s*** going on at home.”
And another added: “I remember being completely flabbergasted that some of my classmates weren't allowed to read Harry Potter because it was about ‘witches’.”
Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast last year, Perry said she also wasn't allowed to go trick or treating on Halloween as it was 'the devil's holiday'.
She added that her chosen career path, in particular breakout hit 'I Kissed a Girl', was 'tough' for her parents, adding: "When any child takes a departure, when any child doesn't become the doctor, lawyer, you know? It's tough."
