India's quick commerce scene is getting more competitive, and Blinkit, owned by Zomato, is making some bold moves. CEO Albinder Dhindsa recently announced that the platform is now delivering electronics like laptops, monitors, and printers in just 10 minutes to residents in major cities.

This comes shortly after Blinkit introduced a 10-minute ambulance service in Gurugram, showing how it's constantly looking to expand and innovate.

Laptops at Your Doorstep in 10 Minutes? Blinkit Makes It Happen

Expanding the 10-Minute Delivery Horizon

When I first heard about Blinkit's latest offering, I was intrigued. Delivering electronics in 10 minutes? That's ambitious. Dhindsa shared on X (formerly Twitter) that the company has partnered with leading brands like HP, Lenovo, Zebronics, MSI, and Canon. Customers in Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Pune, and Lucknow can now get their hands on laptops, monitors, and printers without the usual wait.

Most of these deliveries are handled by Blinkit's large-order fleet, ensuring that even bulky items arrive promptly. Dhindsa also mentioned plans to add more brands and products soon, which could make quick access to electronics a new norm in these bustling cities.

The Quick Commerce Race Intensifies

Blinkit's expansion into electronics isn't happening in a vacuum. The quick commerce sector in India is becoming increasingly competitive. Just days before Blinkit's announcement, Zomato introduced a '15-minute delivery' option in its app, offering a curated list of food choices for those in a hurry.

Meanwhile, Swiggy has rolled out its 'Bolt' service, promising 10-minute food deliveries from popular restaurants and quick-service eateries. Starting in cities like Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Mumbai, and Pune, Swiggy plans to extend this service to key markets in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities.

And let's not forget Zepto, which recently launched Zepto Cafe, aiming to deliver snacks, meals, and beverages swiftly. While Zepto is focusing on opening physical restaurants, Blinkit has taken the cloud kitchen route with its Bistro app, both vying to satisfy our cravings in record time.

Global Giants Enter the Fray

Adding another layer to this competitive landscape, global players like Amazon and Flipkart are testing the quick commerce waters. Amazon is piloting its "Tez" service in Bengaluru, offering rapid delivery of essentials. Flipkart isn't far behind with "Flipkart Minutes," which is expanding to include not just groceries but also electronics and medicines.

This influx of international competition is pushing local companies to innovate and diversify their offerings. BigBasket, for instance, is integrating with Tata Cliq to deliver fashion items in 15 minutes, showing that quick commerce is no longer limited to food and groceries.

What This Means for Consumers

For consumers like us, this competition is likely to bring more options and better services. The ability to get a laptop or printer delivered in 10 minutes could be a game-changer, especially for those urgent, last-minute needs. However, it's also worth considering how these companies will balance speed with sustainability and profitability.

The quick commerce model requires significant logistics and operational efficiency. As companies race to outdo each other, it'll be interesting to see how they manage these challenges while keeping prices reasonable.
