Brian Blessed wants to climb the biggest mountain on the planet Mars before he dies.

The 88-year-old actor-and-explorer has been on numerous expeditions, such as travelling to the North Pole and climbing Mount Everest. But the Flash Gordon star, famous for his “Gordon’s alive!” catchphrase, has one more mountain he wishes to scale, Olympus Mons on Mars.

The shield volcano measures 72,000ft high by the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter, which is 2.5 times the size of Mount Everest above sea level.

Blessed told the We Can Be Weirdos podcast: “My big love in life is space, more than acting, more than anything.

“My love of space is total.

“We belong out there, we don’t just belong here.

“There’s a mountain on Mars, Olympus Mons, and it is higher than Mount Everest.

“I’m going to go and climb it.”

Blessed, who is already a fully trained cosmonaut, would be ready if tech billionaire Elon Musk can fulfil his ambition to take humans to Mars.

The actor completed his astronaut training at the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center in Star City in Russia.

He said: “I’m 50% actor and 50% explorer.

“I’ve been to the North Pole, South Pole, Mongolia, Everest, five different ways up Everest.

“Also, I’m a fully trained cosmonaut.

“I went to Moscow a few years ago to do this training.

“It was a time when Putin wasn’t a (naughty word beginning with c) I did all my training in Moscow and passed it.”

The news comes after Blessed earlier this week said he'd know what to do if ever he was chased by a yeti - run down a hill as the beast would be slowed down by its low hanging breasts.
