Sir Brian May's health scare has taken a positive turn, with his wife Anita Dobson revealing that the Queen guitarist's condition has "stabilised" after a "scary" stroke.
The rock legend, 77, experienced a sudden loss of control in his left arm last September, prompting an urgent hospital dash.
"He's much better now, he's stabilised now, which is brilliant," Anita, 75, shared with fans. "I just hope we don't have any more reoccurrences. He's got the use of that arm, which was a bit of a challenge, back now. So, yeah, he's good to go now. He's playing the piano quite a lot in the house. He likes a lot of Beethoven. I love it - the piano in the house is really, just very relaxing."
In a candid revelation last September, Brian May described his stroke as "minor" but "scary", recalling how he was whisked away to Frimley Hospital in Surrey with "blue lights flashing, the lot - very exciting".
Merely a week following what he termed a "health hiccup", the guitar legend joyfully confirmed his ability to strum once again, despite initially losing control of one arm. Now, Eastenders star Anita, famed for her role as Angie Watts, has disclosed that Brian allowed himself ample recovery time before venturing back into music.
"He didn't actually try until after he'd recovered quite a bit," she remarked at the TRIC Christmas Lunch, where she was celebrated as a Legend and received an award, reports the Mirror.
"And then he very slowly started to pick up an acoustic guitar and gradually just exercise the muscles. And it very quickly came back. He's just retraining the messages from your brain to that arm, that it's actually okay to do what it used to do. It was scary. And also being a genius for someone like that. His brain's overloaded, that's what it is. He's too clever for his own good."
Brian admitted at the time that he had been "grounded", saying: "I'm not allowed to go out - well, I'm not allowed to drive, not allowed to get on a plane, not allowed to raise the heart rate too high."
Now, however, Brian has been given the green light to embrace life's excitements once again, with plans to travel to Lapland this month with Anita to "meet the elves" in time for Christmas.
As they reached their 24th wedding anniversary a couple of weeks ago, Brian reflected: "Take care out there folks and Carpe Diem ! Because tomorrow ... who knows where the wind might blow."
Anita, who has three step-children with Brian from his previous marriage to Christine Mullen, recalls the scare when Brian suffered a heart attack in 2020. Initially dismissing it as a gardening injury, Brian now recognises he "could have died".
After suffering a health scare, he had three stentstiny tubes that keep blocked arteries openfitted into his heart aiding his recovery. Speaking about his "minor stroke" in September, he urged fans to refrain from sending sympathetic messages.
"I really don't want sympathy," he asserted. "Please don't do that because it'll clutter up my inbox and I hate that."
