A host of British comics are becoming global stars thanks to a fringe festival more than 10,000 miles away. Every year thousands of performers flock to play at Adelaide Fringe on the south coast of Australia to win new fans.
Plenty of our rising stars have cashed in by appearing at it in recent years. Mock The Week star Russell Howard jetted Down Under for the 2024 event and proved so popular he sold out shows. Other Brit stars to get a boost thanks to the festival include TikTok sensation Christopher Hall and rising comic Kate Smurthwaite.
Festivalgoer James Davis told the Daily Star: “Aussies love the British sense of humour. It always goes down a storm with crowds here.

“Acts who come here from Britain tend to do very well indeed. They gain a lot of new fans from around the world.”
Another British performer to get a boost at the festival is magician Paul Dabek, who wowed crowds earlier this year with his show London Calling.
Adelaide Fringe is so popular that more than a million tickets are sold every year. It boasts a wide range of entertainment including cabaret, comedy, drag, acrobatics, burlesque and singing.
There are also parodies of things like Barbie, Disney and Shrek. Quite a few of the shows are very saucy and feature quite a bit of nakedness. In fact, many are so spicy they are advertised with a warning.
Next year’s festival will run from February 21 to March 23. It’s been announced that the acts will include British comedian Ross Noble. Other performers will include Australia’s 2024 Eurovision act Electric Fields. For details visit adelaidefringe.com.au
