Gavin & Stacey Christmas Special

Fans were delighted with the finale, which aired last night

While Christmas comes with an array of highlights, this year many people's most anticipated moment was the long-awaited finale of Gavin & Stacey.

For five years, the nation has waited to see what Smithy said to Nessa when she got down on one knee and asked him to marry her and, it's fair to say, the big episode didn't disappoint – as more than 18million people who tuned in to watch can attest.

While we won't give any spoilers away to anyone who hasn't seen the final episode, many people have been taking to TikTok to share their favourite moments from the show. One mega-fan, known as Gavin & Stacey Clips on the social media platform, was delighted when they came across a super subtle detail.

When the boys turn up for Smithy's stag do, they're all seen donning West Ham football shirts. But, if you have eagle eyes, you may have noticed Gavin wore his with a bit of a twist.

Unlike his best mate, Gavin doesn't support West Ham. Instead, he's a Tottenham Hotspur fan, which has been made clear over the years.

But, even though it was his best mate's stag, he couldn't bring himself to wear the badge on his chest. Unlike the rest of the boys, the detail is missing from his shirt.

Over a clip of the moment, the content creator wrote: "Gavin couldn't bring himself to wear the Westham badge." The video has since been viewed hundreds of times, and it's left people in stitches.

One person said: "I didn't even spot that." Another wrote: "No way – didn't notice this."

Gavin & Stacey officially came to an end on Christmas Day

The fan who shared the video was quick to respond, saying: "It's the details like this that make the show." Based on the reactions from last night's episode, it's fair to say he's not wrong.

Elsewhere on social media, people have been praising how amazing the episode was, with many admitting it left them in floods of tears. Some even dubbed it the absolute "perfect ending."

One fan posted: "It was always Smithy and Nessa's love story, not Gavin & Stacey's." Another commented: "The corn on the cob. The emotions I felt throughout. Ruth Jones, James Corden – writing as good as ever. Going to miss them."

A third also replied: "Man, I'm balling my eyes out. It's so good, but I need to find out what happens on that fishing trip."
