Budget American Airline Frontier Debuts New First-Class Seats

Frontier, the budget U.S. airline, has announced its new first-class seats among a number of other upgraded options for American passengers.

The company announced the rollout of these features, which it is calling "The New Frontier," in a press release on Tuesday. The rollout will begin in 2025 and will include first-class seats as well as free upgrades for Elite Gold members and above on every flight, unlimited free companion travel for Platinum and Diamond Elite members, and redeemable air miles for things like baggage and seating upgrades.

"Travelers should expect more from their airline and, in 2025, Frontier will deliver as we continue our transformation into the most rewarding airline in the sky," said Barry Biffle, CEO of Frontier Airlines.

"We've listened to customers, and they want more—more premium options, like first class seating, attainable seat upgrades, more free travel for their companions, and the ability to use miles on more than just airfare. These changes represent an exciting new chapter in our transformation into The New Frontier."

The airline has described this new first-class seating as "luxurious" and "spacious," located in the first two rows of the aircraft. These seats will debut in the latter half of next year.

Meanwhile, the newly announced free companion travel means that Platinum and Diamond Elite members can bring friend or family member on any flight at no extra cost, starting mid-2025.

The free seat upgrades for Frontier's Elite loyalty members, which start in early 2025, are subject to availability and status level. Among the benefits they will have include UpFront Plus seating with guaranteed empty middle seats. These customers already receive upgrades to premium seats when they become available.

Frontier flies to more than 100 destinations within the U.S. and 18 international destinations, including Canada and Mexico. Described as an "ultra-low cost" carrier, Frontier is the ninth-largest commercial airline in the U.S., according to Statista, having carried around 24.5 million passengers in 2022.

That year, the company recorded $3.3 billion in operating revenue

Frontier is among the number of airlines that have announced plans for upgraded customer experiences in recent days. Singapore Airlines, which operates the world's longest flight from New York City JFK to Singapore, recently announced its new first-class cabins for the lengthy near 19-hour journey.

Other airlines that have announced revamps include British Airways, which are expected to debut as early as 2026 and come as part of a $8.9 billion overhaul of the airline's passenger experience.
