When Cameron Diaz signed up to star in Back in Action with Jamie Foxx back in 2022, Diaz surprised fans by coming out of retirement. After all, while she occupied movie theatres from the 90’s to the 2010s with movies like There’s Something About Mary, The Other Woman and Charlie’s Angels, Diaz notoriously took a step back from acting to focus on her family and launch her personal projects.
But, as new reports confirmed, Diaz’s return to acting isn’t exactly the same as how she used to do things.

“Family is always going to come first for Cameron and that’s something you just have to factor in when you get into business with her,” the source told InTouch Weekly. As a reminder, Diaz shares kids Raddix, 4, and Cardinal, born in 2024, with her husband, Benji Madden.
“And that’s the big difference between who she is now and the way she did things in her 20s and 30s when she would do three or four movies back-to-back without a break,” the source explained. “That kind of insane schedule made her rich and steadily resulted in hit movies, but Cameron barely had a personal life during those years and she’s a whole lot more grounded now that she has something to live for beyond her movie career.”
But while her priorities have surely shifted, Diaz is reportedly open to diving back into acting again. “Cameron wants to act more and she’s technically open to read scripts and entertain offers, but she is also realistic about how competitive it is for actresses in her age bracket,” the source said. “The people in her world don’t see her taking another long hiatus, no matter what happens with Back in Action.”
Diaz’s new movie, which premieres on Netflix on January 17, follows a former CIA couple, Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), who find themselves dragged back into the world of espionage when their cover is blown.
Prior to the release, Diaz had been open about how fulfilling her time away from the cameras had been. “For me, it was just something I had to do,” she said at the Fortune’s Most Powerful Women Summit, per Variety. “It felt like something I had to do to reclaim my own life. And I just really didn’t care about anything else.”
“Nobody’s opinion, nobody’s success, no one’s offer, no one’s anything could change my mind about my decision of taking care of myself and building the life that I really wanted to have,” Diaz added. “It really comes to: What are you passionate about? For me, it was to build my family.”
We admired her decision to step away, and we can’t wait to see her back on the big screen again!
