Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana has been forced to postpone his upcoming Las Vegas residency after suffering a nasty fall at his Hawaiian holiday home.
The 77-year-old musician, who was set to begin his stint at the House of Blues at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on January 22, broke his little finger on his left hand and required pins to be inserted.
According to his management team, Santana will need around six weeks to recover before he can play guitar again. In a statement, Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management, explained: "Carlos is doing well and is anxious to be back on stage soon. He just needs to heal. Santana profoundly regrets these postponements of his upcoming performances, but accidents happen, and his health is our number one concern. He is looking forward to seeing all of his fans very soon."
This is not the first time Santana has had to postpone shows due to health issues, having cancelled some dates in September and October last year following a "corrective procedure" for a "back issue".
A statement shared on his Facebook page read: "From Team Santana: As many of you are already aware, Carlos has been dealing with a back issue that will soon be treated with a corrective procedure. Due to this medical procedure, the September 2 show in Phoenix at Footprint Center, September 4 show in Albuquerque at Isleta Amphitheater, and September October 2 - 6 shows at House of Blues Las Vegas will be cancelled. We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. The shows currently scheduled for August 27 in Mountain View, August 28 in Los Angeles, August 30 in San Diego, and August 31 at Fool In Love Festival will proceed as planned."
"If you purchased through Ticketmaster, refunds will be issued automatically. If you purchased from a third-party reseller (StubHub, SeatGeek, VividSeats, etc.), please reach out to your point of purchase. ""Carlos would like all of his fans to know that he is looking forward to seeing everyone post procedure at the House of Blues in Las Vegas starting on October 30th."
After successfully undergoing the procedure, Santana went on to perform at his scheduled October and November gigs.
