Chevy Chase shared a heartwarming photo of his grandchild on Instagram — but fans responded with concern.
That's because the 81-year-old Community alum was sporting a black eye in the photo, posted on Monday, December 9. The image showed him holding his granddaughter, Ivy Jay Baglieri.
He flashed a big smile as he cuddled the baby girl, in an image captioned, "@em_chases and @alex.baglieri brought my beautiful granddaughter over. Check out her fanny! ❤️."
The Saturday Night Live alum pointed out his granddaughter's backside as her little onesie was embroidered with a quote from his beloved holiday movie, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. The onesie read, "S***ter's full," quoting Cousin Eddie's character from the 1989 film, as he empties his RV toilet into the sewer.
Though Chase wanted to focus on his daughter Emily's little girl, fans couldn't help but to inquire about the actor's injury, as he shared no explanation for the black eye on the right side of his face. Chase has three children with his third wife, Jayni Luke, whom he married in 1982: Cydney, 41, Caley, 39, and Emily, 36.
"Such a precious photo, and I'm sorry to see your [sic] injured, I hope your eye gets well soon. ♥️," one person commented.
Another Instagram user posted, "Uh... what happened to your EYE?!?!?!"
A third joked the baby herself could have been responsible, commenting, "Aww, So Cute! Psst, Baby Packs a Punch! 🥊."
Another commenter made a joke about Jay Leno, who revealed on November 18 that he had injured his eye while falling during a hike. "Someone has been hiking with Jay Leno," the comment read.
A representative for the Emmy winner jokingly told TMZ, "He does not like to brag, but he fights crime late at night. You can thank him later." Due to the growing concern, the publication also reported that his rep assured fans Chase was okay, and had just "bumped his head in his hotel room rushing for a meeting."
Chase's concerning post comes as the research team at 24/7 games listed his Christmas classic as one of the most Googled holiday films by state, per Cw33. It topped the third spot for holiday films, behind A Christmas Story and Elf.
Analyzing Google Trends data, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation was the most-searched holiday movie in Arizona, Arkansas, Illinois, Maine, and South Dakota.
