The Washington Commanders experienced a scary situation on Sunday when star quarterback Jayden Daniels went down with what appeared to be a rib injury. After being tackled, Daniels was shown grimacing on the sideline, and he was immediately checked in the blue medical tent right after.

Daniels was then taken into the locker room, where he was given an X-ray of the ribs in question. The result was a negative result for the ribs being broken or any structural damage being done. This is great news, as the young rookie could have missed multiple weeks had there been any damage to his ribs.

Jayden Daniels is officially “week-to-week,” per coach Dan Quinn. “We're hopeful he could play.”

But there are real unknowns and they’ll be cautious. Safe to say, the showdown between Daniels and Caleb Williams is in doubt. https://t.co/iqHfAevfKU

According to Ian Rapoport, "Jayden Daniels is officially 'week-to-week,' per coach Dan Quinn. 'We're hopeful he could play.' But there are real unknowns and they'll be cautious. Safe to say, the showdown between Daniels and Caleb Williams is in doubt."

"Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, who left Sunday's win early because of his ribs, suffered an injury that is not considered to be serious but does require treatment and monitoring throughout the week, sources say. His status vs. the Bears is up in the air."

The good news is that Daniel avoided serious injury, though it sounds like he could be unlikely to play Sunday against the Chicago Bears. This is disappointing considering it could have been one of the most exciting games of the 2024 season, as both Daniels and Caleb Williams have been playing very well.

Daniels is now considered "week-to-week" and his playing status remains a question mark for Sunday. Rapoport indicated that Daniels will still need treatment and to be monitored, despite his not having a serious injury.

Daniels has played very well through six games. Prior to the injury, the rookie has put up 1,410 yards, six touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Marcus Mariota stepped in for the injured Daniels and put together an impressive performance of his own. Mariota finished Sunday with 205 yards and two touchdown passes. The Commanders trounced the Carolina Panthers, 40-7, en route to their fifth win of the season.

The Commanders are in first place in the NFC East with a 5-2 record and have become one of the biggest surprises under new head coach Dan Quinn. Quinn has turned around the team in a big way, but it will be interesting to see how they do against a quality opponent without Daniels.

The Panthers are not the most competitive team in the league, but the Commanders will have a true test when they face the surging Bears on Sunday.
