Courtney Love has more opinions on current music, this time sharing her thoughts on Kendrick Lamar, Taylor Swift, Lana Del Rey and more.
Nearly two weeks following the release of her new 070 Shake collaboration "Song to the Siren," Love spoke to The Standard, where she called out wanting to one day work with the "Squabble Up" rapper.
"I would love to work with Kendrick Lamar; I have a mad crush on him," Love told the publication, before adding that she's a fan of Stormzy and Doja Cat. The latter covered "Celebrity Skin" by Hole (of which Love was a frontwoman) in 2022.
Elsewhere in the interview, Love, who's the widow of Kurt Cobain, returned to her "big crush" on Kendrick, calling him a "genius."
"And Kendrick? He's undoubtedly the best hip-hop writer ever; his flow is beautiful and his lyrics thoughtful," she concluded the interview. "Kendrick – if you're reading this – did you listen to Leonard Cohen or Bowie growing up? Because it sounds like it! Plus, political-era Bob Dylan? Dude... seriously... he's a genius!"
Also in the interview, she mentioned Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube as her "home guys" before giving her take on academic courses dedicated to Taylor Swift.
"While I may not love Swift musically, her lyrics when she's angry resonate with me – I find it middlebrow and boring to overanalyse them," Love said. "Those academic papers I've read are hilarious!"
Love seemed to have a change of heart on Del Rey, whom she previously suggested "should take seven years off." Now, Love wants to write a song with the alt-pop vocalist.
"I'd love to co-write a song with Lana Del Rey – I’d like to be "Paul" and go hard on choruses while going back to Norman and go hard on choruses, or whatever," Love said. "She’s currently on her honeymoon; I'm very happy for her."
She continued, "But every time some kid asks me to "collab" with Lana – I mean come on! Can you stop saying "collab" to someone who straddles Gen X and boomer? We don’t do that! Call it "writing a song together," not "featuring." It makes me lose my temper and makes it the last thing I want to do. I love Lorde too."
Along with some harsh words for Del Rey in a previous interview with The Standard earlier this year, Love also criticized Swift, Beyoncé and her longtime rival Madonna.
