Cowboys' Stephen Jones Reveals Dak Prescott is Headed to IR, Announces Timeline of Return

The Dallas Cowboys are placing their starting quarterback Dak Prescott on the injured reserve list. He will likely be out for more than the original four weeks that were expected.

Executive vice president Stephen Jones said that he could be out longer. Some believe that it could be six to eight weeks until the quarterback can get back onto the field.

"I think it's probably no way he can be back in the four-week timeframe, so we'll put him over there and we'll have that roster spot to use in terms of the next four weeks and go from there. Obviously a tough, tough situation, losing him for that period time, but we're going to do what's in the best interest of Dak and right now I don't think anyone knows whether it'll be four weeks, six weeks or the season. We'll just have to continue to monitor that and see where it takes us."

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said on @1053thefan Friday the Cowboys will place Dak Prescott on injured reserve although it has not happened yet. Likely Saturday when Cowboys make roster moves.

This now puts the remainder of his season into question. Owner Jerry Jones also weighed in on the status of his quarterback.

"He's got to have some weeks off of it before he can see if it really does require surgery and so he doesn't want surgery. He wants to be on the field and going for it," Jerry Jones said. "And so he's weighing that, we're weighing that and we'll just see how it goes here."

On the year, Prescott has thrown 1,978 yards with 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He hasn't had a great year and Dallas has struggled all over the place.

With the Cowboys season going down the drain, it could make sense for them to hold off on bringing Prescott back. They are currently 3-5 on the season and have a massive game against the Philadelphia Eagles this weekend.

If they could find a way to win, it could save their season. But another loss and Dallas may want to throw in the towel in what has been a massively frustrating season.

Jones also addressed the reality of the Cowboys falling out of a potential playoff chase.

"Well aware it's there, well aware it could happen," Jerry Jones said, "but that type of thinking hasn't entered into it."

Dallas has some tough work to do ahead of themselves but they'll have to do it without the services of their starting quarterback.
