A widespread cucumber recall is currently taking place across the United States, with 36 states affected.
The affected cucumbers are produced by the brands SunFed, Crazy Fresh and PAM PAK and are being recalled due to fears of salmonella contamination.
Salmonella is bacteria that can make people sick with an illness called salmonellosis. It is one of the leading causes of foodborne illness in the United States and symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and stomach cramps.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are currently investigating the salmonella outbreak, which is thought to be linked to American cucumbers grown by Agrotato, S.A. de C.V. in Sonora, Mexico.
As of November 26, the CDC reports a total of 68 people from 19 states have been infected with the outbreak strain. No deaths have yet been reported but 18 people have been hospitalized.
