FromSoftware president Hidetaka Miyazaki has teased the company's future games but they don't include Elden Ring 2. The celebrated game director spoke about the company's future after winning the Grand Award at the 2024 PlayStation Partner Awards in Japan.
Speaking to Game Watch, Miyazaki revealed that there are no plans to develop a sequel to Elden Ring, Game of the Year winner at TGA 2022.
"At this point, we are not thinking of developing "Elden Ring 2" or anything like that," he said (translated by DeepL).
"However, this is not to deny the development of the "Elden Ring" IP. As for what we will do then, FromSoftware is running multiple projects as usual. We have many different variations of projects within those projects, so we hope that you will look forward to them.
Following the release of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, a massive expansion that's nominated for Game of the Year in The Game Awards this year, FromSoftware is currently developing multiple games.
"We have multiple projects in the works across a variety of genres," Miyazaki added (via Gematsu). "There are title(s) directed by me, as well as title(s) directed by those other than myself. In that regard, I think we'll be able to show you a new FromSoftware in a variety of ways, so please look forward to it."
It's interesting to note Miyazaki talking about games in different genres. Following the release of Elden Ring in 2022, FromSoftware released Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, a mech-combat game. The Japanese developer may likely be working on reviving its older franchises in a similar way following the conclusion of Elden Ring. Perhaps it's time to bring back King's Field?
Elden Ring is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
