Dave Coulier Shares Unexpected 'Side Effect' Of Cancer Journey

3 hours ago 3

Dave Coulier is getting honest about the unexpected side effects of chemotherapy.

On a new episode of the Full House Rewind podcast out on Friday, the actor offered fans an update on how he’s feeling amid his treatment for stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma. There’s so much someone has to process amid a cancer journey, and for him right now, “it’s been a little bit of an adjustment” getting used to having no hair, he shared:

“I’m feeling good. My hair has not grown back at this time yet.”

It’s not just that he misses his hair, he also now realizes how helpful it was, he continued:

“I realize how much that hair keeps you warm. Gets a little cold here in Michigan where I’m at.”

His co-host Marla Sokoloff then teased:

“That’ll come in handy during the summer, I guess. It’s like a little air conditioning on your head.”

But the comic realized he’ll have another problem to deal with, replying:

“But then you gotta make sure you put sunblock on.”

Hah, true! His co-host then referenced a meme which said, “if your nose isn’t running right now, appreciate the heck out of that,” and she thought Dave might relate to the feeling, explaining:

“Because once your nose starts running, you forget how wonderful it is to be healthy. And I’m sure that that’s a similar feeling that you have where you’re like, ‘Did I appreciate my health when I had it?’”

He totally understood that, but wished his only problem was a runny nose, expressing:

“It’s been kind of a roller coaster ride. Different effects. And people who are watching the show or listening to the show, who have been here before, you know that it’s a roller coaster, because the side effects have side effects — and then you take a drug to counteract that and this and that.”

The 65-year-old described it as his body being in a constant state of “fight or flight mode”:

“So it’s this constant cocktail where your body is in fight or flight mode, and you’re just trying to adjust to, like, ‘Okay, how am I adjusting to steroids? How am I adjusting to the chemo cocktail? And then, how am I adjusting to all these other things?’ You know, your body’s in a fight. It’s a little bit of an internal battle.”

Dave is staying strong, though, as he said he’s got an amazing team of supporters, he shared:

“I have heard from so many people, Marla, who have been affected by cancer in their lives. And, you know, the words of encouragement have, I think, really helped people. So that, to me, is worth the journey of all of this. If I have to feel a little out of sorts for a few months, then, then so be it. But just being able to alert people that it’s okay to get a colonoscopy or early screenings or a mammogram, it’s really worth it.”

An incredible perspective during such a tough time! Watch the full episode for yourself (below):

We’re sending healing vibes Dave’s way as he continues down this road. May he make a full recovery soon.
