A number of daytime TV stars have been struck down with a mystery bug with flu-like symptoms.

Kirstie Allsopp, Jeremy Vine and Big Brother star, Narinda Kaur, have all complained of the illness, with Channel 4 presenter, Kirstie, 53, saying the "chest infection/ lurgy" was unlike anything she'd had before.

Taking to X, she wrote: "I have been completely floored by this thing, what the hell is it?" According to the Location, Location, Location star she's not the only celebrity to have been struck down by the illness. Kirstie continued: "It seems to have hit the celeb circuit particularly hard," adding that she is 'desperately' searching for a well-known figure to replace her in a Christmas carol concert.

Presenter Jeremy Vine 59, appeared to agree with the mum-of-two, commenting: "Everyone has got it." Meanwhile, former reality star, Narinder Kaur, 51, said that she has also been wiped out with the illness, writing: "It's been dreadful knocked me out for a few good weeks."

Social media is also full of people complaining of the "worst cold ever". One TikTok user claimed she's suffering from a 'blocked/ runny nose, sore and tickly throat, headache, sinus pain, earache and the worst body pains'. Meanwhile someone over on Instagram told her followers she feels like she is "dying". She said: "One minute I'm freezing, the next I am sweating buckets, then I am coughing like a man, to then having no voice. But it's not Covid. What is this?"

The accounts come as NHS chiefs warn of alarming levels of flu hitting UK hospitals, with three times as many cases as this period last year. According to the latest figures, flu hospitalisations have risen 70 per cent in the past week alone.

According to the NHS website, flu will often get better on its own, but it can make some people seriously ill. To protect yourself during the winter months, it is advised to rest and sleep, drink plenty of water, keep warm and take paracetamol or ibuprofen to lower your temperature and treat aches and pains. It also also advised to give paracetamol or ibuprofen to your child if they're distressed or uncomfortable – check the packaging or leaflet to make sure the medicine is suitable for children. Please speak to a pharmacist or GP if you're not sure.
