THE actor Art Evans, who appeared in the hit movie Die Hard 2, has died. 

Evans died on Saturday after battling diabetes for many years, his agent revealed.

He was 82 at the time of his death, following a career that spanned decades. 

Evans appeared in the 1984 flick A Soldier’s Story before starring in Die Hard 2, where he played an air traffic control worker, Barnes. 

During his career, the actor also landed roles in shows such as Walker, Texas Ranger, and The X-Files. 

His wife, Babe, told USA Today that her husband will be deeply missed.

"Art was not only an incredible actor but a devoted husband, friend, and source of light to everyone who knew him," she said.

"His laughter, passion, and love of life will be deeply missed.

"While our hearts are heavy, we celebrate the legacy of joy and inspiration he leaves behind.”

Evans' TV and movie career spanned decades, having landed roles in the 1970s movies Sisters, and Amazing Grace.

He appeared in one episode of M*A*S*H where he played Dolan in 1979, and the 1980s show Enos.

Evans made three appearances in Hill Street Blues between 1981 and 1984, and played a prisoner in the series Maximum Security.

He was also known for appearing in the American TV sitcom 9 to 5, which aired between 1986 and 1988.

Evans starred alongside the likes of Rachel Dennison - the younger sister of Dolly Parton - and the legendary actress Rita Moreno.
