Dior has officially named Japanese actress and singer Anna Sawai as its newest brand ambassador, following her recent Golden Globe and Emmy wins for her standout role in the hit miniseries Shōgun. The announcement solidifies Sawai’s rising influence in both the entertainment and fashion worlds.
Sawai, who also won WWD’s inaugural Fashion Newcomer Style Award, will represent Dior’s women’s collections designed by Creative Director Maria Grazia Chiuri. She joins an esteemed roster of Dior ambassadors, including Jenna Ortega, Sonam Kapoor, Elizabeth Debicki, and Rosamund Pike.
In a statement shared exclusively with WWD, Dior expressed, “This unique alliance, rooted in creativity, celebrates the powerful ties between the house and culture in all its forms.”
Born in New Zealand, Sawai moved to Japan with her family at the age of 10. She began her career in entertainment at just 11 years old, landing her first acting role in a stage production of Annie. She later gained fame as a lead vocalist in the Japanese girl group Faky from 2013 to 2018.
Since returning to acting, Sawai has captivated audiences with her performances in the Apple TV+ drama series Pachinko and the Godzilla spinoff series Monarch: Legacy of Monsters. Her portrayal of Lady Toda Mariko in Shōgun earned her the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series, making her the first actress of Asian descent and the first Japanese actress to win the prestigious award.
Sawai has already teased her collaboration with Dior, wearing a stunning white leather bustier top paired with a long white silk skirt designed by Chiuri at the Golden Globes, where she won the award for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Television Series — Drama.
Reflecting on her new role, Sawai shared, “Becoming a Dior ambassador is a dream come true. Dior represents timeless elegance, strength, and individuality — qualities I’ve always admired and aspired to embody. I’m so honored to join this iconic house and to celebrate its artistry and vision.”
