Dodgers Land $52 Million Star For Top Prospect In Blockbuster Trade Pitch

The St. Louis Cardinals are desperately looking to move third baseman Nolan Arenado. Arenado's no-trade clause and $52 million left on his contract make this quite difficult. But Arenado has reportedly cleared a trade to six different teams and the Cardinals are willing to eat a chunk of the deal to move him.

One of the teams on Arenado's wish list is the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are always looking to add talent. Thomas Gauvain of RedBird Rants recently put together a trade package that would send Arenado to Los Angeles in exchange for a top pitching prospect.

Here are the full details of the trade pitched by Gauvain:

  • Los Angeles Dodgers receive: 3B Nolan Arenado, $20 million
  • St. Louis Cardinals receive: RHP Bobby Miller

"Wouldn't this be nice? The Cardinals receive a legitimate starting pitcher, and all they have to forfeit is Arenado and some cash. Bobby Miller had a down year in 2024 with an 8.52 ERA in only 56 innings pitched, but his 2023 was exceptional. He had a 3.76 ERA with 119 strikeouts in 124.1 innings for a 114 ERA+," Gauvain wrote. "The Dodgers have already exceeded the luxury tax, so they'll happily accept any cash in addition to Arenado. Bobby Miller's stock has fallen after a rough 2024, and this trade could benefit both clubs. It's possible the Cardinals will have to add either more money or a prospect of some kind to sweeten the deal."

This seems like the kind of deal that could work for both sides. Bobby Miller likely won't find a spot in the Dodgers rotation as long as Los Angeles continues to bring in stars. Miller would be a good addition to a Cardinals pitching staff that's looking to get younger.

Throwing in $20 million and getting off the other $32 million of Arenado's deal would be a big plus for St. Louis too. The only hold up of this deal would be whether or not the Dodgers see Arenado as a big addition to their infield. I think this would be a good deal for both sides with the Dodgers getting even better.
