Dr. Dre scored a major victory in his heated legal battle with his ex-divorce therapist, Dr. Charles Sophy, who accused the music mogul of harassment. Sophy was granted a temporary restraining order against Dre as a result.

On Tuesday (Nov. 5), a California judge immediately lifted the motion against the super producer, declaring that Dre, né Andre Young, wasn’t a threat to Sophy’s safety.

“The court finds the party requesting the order of protection did not sustain the applicable burden of proof and accordingly the request is denied,” Judge Melanie Ochoa ruled, according to Rolling Stone. “Any temporary restraining order earlier issued is hereby dissolved.”

Sophy testified live in the courtroom claiming that Dre launched a campaign of harassment and threats that left him fearing for his life. He added that The Chronic icon started coming at him after his divorce was settled in 2021—alleging he sent a slew of “malicious” late-night texts, threats, and “homophobic” remarks. Dre testified from a live video admitting to sending messages.

“In 2023, I discovered that Sophy had attempted to poison my relationship with my son, including by urging him to disclose my financial records to the media as part of his attempts to pressure me into settling my divorce on unfair terms,” Dre stated. “The text messages from 2023 that Sophy attaches to his TRO petition were sent in the context of my discovery of his malpractice and my unsuccessful attempts to have Sophy explain to me why he was undertaking these inappropriate actions.”

He continued, “Sophy has accused me of sending/texting him ‘what a little bi**h you are’ from a burner phone on Oct. 9, 2024. I did not send him this text. Sophy has accused me of having my employees or associates impersonate FBI agents, go to his gated community, and ask the security guard if they could speak to Sophy almost two years ago. I did no such thing.”

Sophy’s lawyer, Christopher Frost, doubled down on the threat claims, insisting that Sophy’s fears were real and vowed to keep fighting the $10,000,000 lawsuit for harassment and damages.

“Dr. Sophy lives in constant fear. He wears a bulletproof vest anytime he steps foot outside, is afraid to leave his home and is constantly looking over his shoulder,” Frost stated. “The egregiousness of Young’s persistent harassing behavior has compelled Dr. Sophy to seek redress and protection. Nobody should have to live in constant fear. But Dr. Sophy does — ironically for no other reason than he tried to help Young to resolve his own family’s conflict.”

Although the judge has ruled in Dre’s favor, Sophy is reportedly still gunning for a big payout. Sophy is seeking compensatory damages of at least $10,000,000 and punitive damages that will be decided at trial.
