Drew Barrymore wants everyone to know that Martha Stewart likes her even if it didn’t appear that way for a moment when the lifestyle guru visited Barrymore’s daytime talk show.
During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Barrymore addressed the viral moment when Stewart pushed her hand away after rubbing Stewart’s arm and back during their interview on The Drew Barrymore Show.
During the November episode, Stewart told Barrymore, “You’re the wrong gender” and pushed her away as the actress-host was touching her arm and back.
“You know what? I think she was just teasing,” Barrymore said of the moment after host Andy Cohen asked about the interview.
“Martha actually, I’ve never been able to say this before with confidence but I can now: I think Martha really does like me,” Barrymore said.
She went on to say that she thinks “the internet just misunderstood the moment and ran with it.”
“Because when I first was getting to know her, I was like, ‘I don’t think she likes me,’ but I think I broke through. She doesn’t dislike me!” she added.
Barrymore is known to be unafraid to get up close and personal with guests who join her daytime talk show. However, when speaking with Entertainment Tonight after it was announced that her show scored a season six renewal, Barrymore said that she would “try to practice physical distance,” which she said was not her “strong point.”
Such close interactions have included playing with Natasha Lyonne’s hair and holding Oprah Winfrey’s hand and have been made fun of in a Saturday Night Live sketch.
On Watch What Happens Live, when asked how her physical-distance goal is going, Barrymore joked, “Not good!”
“I can’t control it,” she said when explaining why she tends to get so close to guests. When Barrymore was asked if any of her guests have had bad breath, she confirmed that no one had yet. “And I’m like pupil to pupil!” she quipped.
