Iconic comedian Duncan Norvelle has died at the age of 66 it has been confirmed.

The star, known for his "Chase Me" catchphrase passed away this morning, Thursday December 12, a statement revealed. Duncan rose to fame on ITV's Saturday Royal variety show was aired in the early 1980s.

His death was confirmed online. Wife Linda Trevallion changed her Facebook profile picture and cover photo to a snap of her husband following the sad announcement, with friends sharing messages of condolence in the comments section.

One person who had previously met the family sadly wrote: "The God Cast has been a wonderful gift to me, and has enabled me to meet some of my favorite people. One of those people was the comedian Duncan Norvelle.

"Sadly his family have recently announced that Duncan died earlier this morning. Duncan was incredibly gentle and kind and remains one of comedy heroes, and it was a privilege to spend some time in his company. I send my love and prayers to Linda."

Another close friend said: "Duncan Norvelle has sadly passed away aged only 66 Duncan was a dear friend a great entertainer a character who was a major star on TV and live shows in theatres, Duncan you will be greatly missed."

Also on Twitter/X, a fan wrote: "So sad to hear lovely Duncan Norvell passed away this morning. A comedy legend and one of the nicest people ever. Always had fantastic stories - RIP Duncan Norvell xxx."

Another penned: "I'm so sad to hear the sad news that #DuncanNorvelle has passed away my thoughts are with Linda and the family," while sharing an image of the pair.

In 2012, Duncan suffered a stroke which left him paralysed down the left side of his body. After the incident, he had to be placed in an induced coma and remained in hospital for nine weeks. Doctors told him at the time he may never walk again.

However, defying the odds, the comedian returned to the stage in 2015 with a performance at the Embassy Theatre. All funds from his appearance were donated to the Stroke Foundation.

After finding fame on ITV's Saturday Royal, he appeared on Through The Keyhole in 1991. He also toured with the Ricky Tomlinson Laughter Show in 2008 before taking up the role as Buttons in Cinderella during panto season in 2009.

In reality TV, Duncan appeared in a 2011 episode of Celebrity Come Dine with Me alongside Sean Hughes, Gina Yashere and Paul Tonkinson.
