The EastEnders gang partied up a storm until 4am on the weekend to celebrate the soap's epic 40th anniversary.

Fans of the show were left gobsmacked last week when the jaw-dropping live episode saw the Queen Vic explode and fan favourite, Martin Fowler, played by James Bye, pop his clogs, sending social media into meltdown.

The whole cast put in a stellar shift to mark the soap's 40 years on air and deservedly let their hair down to celebrate their efforts. Seen smiling at the swanky Twenty Two club in Mayfair, London, they stayed partying away until 4am, hugging and kissing.

The special episode was broadcast live from Albert Square, and viewers had the chance to pick whether Denise would reunite with her estranged husband Jack Branning (Scott Maslen) or choose to embark on a new romance with lover Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara).

The vote came after Denise and Jack’s tumultuous marriage fell apart last year, when it was revealed that he had been having an affair with Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner).

The polls closed at 7.10pm on Thursday, just 20 minutes before the live episode aired, with producers promising that whatever the outcome, the public's choice would result in a major shift in Walford that means new storylines and iconic returns. Fans eagerly tuned in to see the outcome of the public vote, which resulted in Denise declare her love for Jack.

Later, the Queen Vic went up in flames when Reiss Colwell's car rammed into the pub and caused it to explode after Cindy Beale pushed her husband Ian in front of the car, causing it to swerve into the building. In the aftermath, Martin Fowler became trapped under a metal beam, with his fate hanging in the balance.

Viewers were left in tears during the episode as the legendary character, who has been on the BBC soap for 40 years, was brutally killed off in one of the most emotional scenes of the soap ever.
