The A-list of music and acting collided when Ed Sheeran and Rupert Grint buddied up to watch their opposing football teams Ipswich and Tottenham, and fans all said the same thing about the surprise friendship

Ed Sheeran watched Ipswich play the Spurs alongside a major Harry Potter star, and fans thought the duo was more groundbreaking than the footie match

Ed Sheeran is well known for popping up in surprising places while surrounded by unlikely people, but fans thought his latest public outing was his best yet.

The four-time Grammy Award winner - who also has an unbelievable seven BRITs to his name - spent his Saturday watching the footie at Portman Ground to support his home team. Ed, 34, was raised a Suffolk boy and is a passionate Ipswich Town supporter, even owning shares in the club.

Ed’s presence at the Premier League game wasn’t surprising but his company was, with fellow redheaded heartthrob Rupert Grint sitting beside him. The two major stars looked like any other matchgoers, with Ed sporting a green padded jacket over a white tee as he chatted and smiled - despite his side losing to Tottenham Hotspurs 4-1.

Right next to him, Harry Potter star Rupert went lowkey in a faded black denim jacket layered over a black T-shirt, keeping his dark shade theme going with a plain black baseball cap and sunglasses.

Despite Ipswich - which Ed owns shares in - losing the match on Saturday, the star looked very happy next to Spurs fan Rupert Grint

Despite the fact that the Ron Weasley actor is a Spurs fan, the opposing stars both looked more than happy in each other’s company, and fans loved seeing their worlds collide.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan noted: “This is so funny bcs Rupert Grint and Ed Sheeran are basically twins and they attend the same game yet support different teams lol,” with another joking about their similar features: “He only invites ginger celebrities into his box.”

“Lol Rupert Grint and Ed Sheeran sat next to each other at the spurs ipswich game,” a third fan wrote alongside a confetti emoji, while another surprised witness penned: “Rupert Grint & Ed Sheeran reunion was not on my 2025 bingo card.”

While Ed scored a personal win with fans by appearing at the big game with Rupert, he’s no stranger to losses for his team - to the point that he was made a meme last month.

Fans agreed that Ed and Rupert are 'basically twins,' and were rattled to see the lookalike stars in such close quarters

Sky Sports was the culprit behind the jibe, sharing a photo of Ed on social media after Ipswich lost 6-0 at home to Manchester City. Alongside the snap, they made a joke out of the lyrics to Ed’s song Photograph, writing: "Loving (football) can hurt sometimes!"

Despite being such a meme-able footie fan, Ed doesn’t spend all of his time at Portman Ground - and often makes seemingly random appearances just to play music, support communities, or give some joy to lucky fans.

Just last month he surprised children at their music youth group, the Tinderbox Collective, in Edinburgh. The star chatted with the musical talents of the next generation and even joined their choir performance, and it seems like the kids had no idea that he’d rock up. One young boy shared: "We were absolutely shocked. I’ve always admired Ed Sheeran and the way he sings and his music. I want to do music and now I feel even more motivated."
