Emmerdale's Amelia Flanagan featured in a special 'harrowing' episode which detailed her character's experience after she ran away and disappeared from the Dales at Christmas
Emmerdale: Marlon finds out that April has been foundEmmerdale's April, played by Amelia Flanagan, has been the centre of plenty of praise following her heartbreaking missing child storyline.
A special episode aired this week, which was entirely focused on Amelia’s character April Windsor, and her experiences since running away from home on Christmas Day. The emotional show saw her take refuge in a squat, witness the stabbing of her new friend Bex, and give birth to a stillborn baby in a public toilet. Despite being just 16 years old, fans say she took the role on like a seasoned professional.
No one was more proud than Amelia's dad, however, who took to X to share his delight at his daughter's talent. It's been more than 10 years since Amelia stepped into the Dales, and her sister, Isabella Flanagan, plays Hope Dobbs in Coronation Street.
Via X, her dad, Chris, shared some still images throughout the episode shared by ITV. He wrote: "Couldn’t be prouder of Amelia, she worked so hard on this.
"11 years ago when our little 5 year old got the job we could never have dreamed that one day she’d be trusted with her own ep. Proudest dad ever right now!"
Fans agreed with several heartfelt replies underneath. One wrote: "She was absolutely outstanding tonight. Very harrowing to watch. I was left with no words at the end of the episode! Bravo, Amelia!"
Another added: "She did amazing what an episode brilliantly done and heartbreaking also great work Amelia." A third noted: "Just give her all the awards now! don't like the story line but wow its powerful, the writers may have given her the tools but to bring it to life takes real talent, well done Amelia."
A fourth expressed: "I watched with tears streaming down my face. She’s absolutely wonderful. Although it makes me feel old as I remember her arriving as a little girl too well. She’s going to achieve HUGE things."
Chris has opened up about his eldest daughter's talent before, as well as Amelia's co-stars. "She’s got this amazing ability to play so much stuff behind her eyes, so when you’re in close doing really intense work, you can see it all," Mark Charnock, who plays April’s dad Marlon Dingle, told the Metro.
"Her eyes are a gift to the camera because they’re blue, and she can’t hide anything with her eyes, so it’s all there, and it’s just heartbreaking to watch."
