Emmerdale star Dean Andrews has opened up about his exit from the soap following tragic scenes on Christmas Day.
His character Will Taylor was seen meeting a grisly end on December 25 when he suffered a heart attack and keeled over leading to his death. Viewers were gripped as Will's scheme against his wife Kim Tate was finally exposed by Joe Tate causing a conflict.
As Will frantically tried to explain his actions and insisted he had put a stop to his scheming already because he truly loved Kim, he became overwhelmed by the stress of the situation and collapsed with pains in his chest. Kim however didn't believe him and watched as he fought to stay alive, waiting too long to intervene to try and save him, leaving him to die as she watched on.
Joe then lied to cover for Kim as he claimed she had tried to call for help immediately leaving her grateful to him as he concealed the fact he had been the driving force behind the scheme all along. He was seen by viewers back in his hotel room where he was desperately downing medication as he struggled with what had happened.
He will now fall under suspicion for Will's death after Billy and Dawn become convinced he returned to kill him. Meanwhile, Dean has addressed an exit from the show in the past admitting he would have to be axed by bosses if he was to leave.
He then confirmed he plans to retire after Will was killed off having reached the end of his acting career on Emmerdale. He said: “I feel very settled. With other stuff that we do [other acting jobs] we’re there for three to five months or whatever, and then we all disappear and we all go and do other stuff and then we come back."
He added to The Sun : “But here it really, I remember before I came in and hearing people say it’s like a family at Emmerdale and thinking blah, blah, blah, but it really is.Because we are together. I definitely see Claire more than I see my own wife, and Olivia more than I see my own daughters so we are like a little family.
“I do feel settled here. When the producers initially asked me to come in and asked me how long I’d like to stay and I said: ‘If I come in now, you’ll have to kick me out.’ I’ll stay as long as they want me to stay but how long they want to stay is up to them. I’m of an age now where I’m in my sixties so I’ll probably retire after this job.”
