Mexican-born actress Eva Longoria has clarified all those comments that the actress would leave the United States if Donald Trump returned to the presidency of the nation.
The Desperate Housewives co-star said that in recent months she has spent her life between Mexico and Spain alongside her husband Jose Baston and their six-year-old son Santiago because of her work.
In an interview with Ana Navarro and her podcast 'Behind the Table', Longoria decided to take the opportunity to set the record straight, toofab.com reported.
"Could you let them know that I didn't move out of the United States because of Trump?" Longoria told Navarro.
"I've been in Europe working for three years," Longoria clarified, adding that an article in Marie Claire magazine pointed this out. "The article says that. People just took some things to create division, which makes me very sad that everything you say is meant to create division when we can't be like that right now."
"I didn't leave because of the political environment, my work took me to Spain to film 'Land of Women'," explained Longoria, who added that she has also spent time in Mexico for her show 'Searching For Mexico'.
Longoria stressed that she is "proud" to be an American and to have grown up in Texas.
"I'm a proud American and I always have been. I'm a proud Texan. I didn't want it to be known that I left because of Trump, absolutely not, or because of the election. I don't know why people just want to take an excerpt to really exploit it," she added.
Longoria's reality and current life
In the edition published by Marie Claire, Longoria clarified that she had moved from the United States more than four years ago because of the Covid-19 pandemic, although she confirmed that she campaigned for Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.
The Hispanic actress criticized Trump's victory, who will return to the White House in January 2025 after winning the last election, and described the United States as "dystopian".
"The surprising thing is not that he won. It's that a convicted criminal who spits so much hate. I would like to think that our struggle continues; if he delivers on his promises, America will be a terrifying place."
"I feel like a privileged person, I can escape and go somewhere. Most Americans are not so lucky. They will be trapped in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them," she concluded.
