Longtime “Dancing With the Stars” cast member Derek Hough took a moment to look back at his 2024 as the year comes to a close. He shared a candid message on social media about how he’s feeling just ahead of the last two shows on his “Dance For the Holidays” Tour.
“I was just reflecting back on this year and thinking about what we accomplished,” Hough said on his Instagram Stories, later sharing the video on his Instagram feed. Hough filmed himself using his cell phone while standing inside a theater in Mesa, Arizona.
“I got kind of emotional putting it together because it’s been a year filled with so many challenges and obstacles but so many triumphs and such a fulfilling year. And we couldn’t have done it without you all showing up, sharing this experience all together makes it so much more special, so much more amplified. Everything is just turned up because we get to do this with you,” he continued.
“So, thank you so much for showing up, for being there, for having this experience with us this past year. It’s been remarkable. So, thank you,” he concluded.
For Hough and his wife, Hayley Erbert, the beginning of the year was very tough. Erbert underwent emergency surgery for an intercranial hematoma in December 2023 and began 2024 in recovery. She’s come a long way, however, and it’s truly been a miracle.
Fans Showed Their Support for Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert
In the comments section of Hough’s post, dozens of fans showed love and support as well as warm wishes for a happy, healthy 2025.
“You are such an incredible person! Watching the year you and Hayley have had unfold before our eyes and all of the – like you beautifully said – triumphs in your lives… it’s inspiring and incredibly moving,” one person wrote.
“You and your family are a blessing. So thankful for Hayley’s outcome. God is good,” someone else said.
“Seeing your show was wonderful! Had seen you once before but seeing Hayley out there as well after all the prayers was truly a miracle,” a third comment read.
Derek Hough Has Repeatedly Called His Wife a ‘Miracle’
As Erbert continues her recovery, she and Hough have shared more details about what happened the night she fell ill.
Hough said that Erbert was having full seizures back stage before being rushed to the hospital. Meanwhile, Erbert has said that she essentially blacked out.
However, Erbert’s recovery went so well that her doctors signed off on her return to dance. She and Hough performed on an episode of “Dancing With the Stars” season 33.
“Last night was such a powerful, full-circle moment for us. To be back in the ballroom, performing together again. Feels like an absolute miracle. There were moments when it seemed impossible that we’d ever get back to this place,” Hough captioned an Instagram post on October 16, 2024.
In addition, Erbert was able to go on tour with Hough, even returning to the very theater where her world changed forever.
“It’s been exactly one year since Hayley almost lost her life. We returned to the very same stage, the same room where we once felt so much fear and uncertainty. A place where I stood frozen, terrified, praying for a miracle,” Hough captioned an Instagram post on December 6.
