Zoe Ball and Fatboy Slim’s son Woody Cook has announced the death of his ‘Granny Ros’ in an emotional tribute message.
The 24-year-old DJ said his dad’s mother died on Christmas Day this year, praising her as an ‘amazing woman’ who was ‘ready’ to move onto her ‘next life’.
Fatboy Slim, real name Norman Cook, has not shared a public tribute but did post a ‘tattoo of the week’ Instagram story hours before his son broke the news.
This loss comes as a doubly devastating blow to the family as Zoe, 54, also lost her mum, Julia Peckham, earlier this year.
In his tribute, Woody wrote: ‘Ups and downs of the year. My Granny Ros passed away on Christmas Day, She was an amazing woman and ‘was ready to start her next life.’
‘That kind of optimism and mentality really inspires me. Losing two Grandparents this year has really made me grow and made me focus a-lot more on family.’
He shared a picture with his grandparents and younger sister Nell, 14, who was rushed to hospital in December after a freak festive accident.
Woody added that the ‘ups’ of the year had been his big move to New York where he is ‘having a blast’ and working on new music.
While he said he was ‘homesick’ on his birthday and over Christmas, he continued: ‘Life always goes on x New year’s resolution is to make every second count…’
In a final send-off for his gran, Woody said: ‘Safe travels Ros and thank you for everything.’
Hundreds of comments offering condolences for the family flooded the aspiring musician’s post, including from Doctor Who icon Russell T Davies who wrote: ‘Sorry for your loss, Woody ♥️.’
Mum Zoe also commented but just shared some stars and heart emojis, rather than penning any further tribute.
The Radio 2 presenter announced that her mum had pancreatic cancer in early March before taking some time away from her BBC show to care for her.
It was only 12 weeks later that the family said their goodbyes, with Zoe posting photos of her mum after the funeral.
Since then, the radio DJ has stepped back from her Breakfast Show with Scott Mills taking up the mantle in January.
This shock announcement came after Zoe’s then-unexplained lengthy absence from the show left fans heartbroken.
The star later revealed she was suffering from TMJ — temporomandibular joint disorder — which causes extreme tenderness and pain.
She said she ‘wakes most days with awful headaches from tension and jaw clenching.’
On her final show, Zoe was in tears but has reportedly been supported by ex-husband Fatboy Slim throughout this difficult year.
