"That was his reputation around there. Everybody knew."
Chopper Young City alleges that former Sean “Diddy” Combs employee, Fonzworth Bentley, was a known “thief” during his time working for Combs, going as far as stealing a pricey chain from the New Orleans native.
In an interview with VladTV, Chopper Young City recalled his dealings with Bentley, whom he met during his time as a member of Da Band, the group spawned from the second season of the MTV music competition series Making the Band.
Initially becoming fond of Bentley, Chopper later had a change of heart after his alleged discovery that the personal assistant had a propensity for swiping others’ valuables.
“In the beginning, I thought Mr. Bentley was the coolest person in the world. I’m talking about the coolest person in the world,” Chopper said. “And then eventually, Bentley started stealing.”
Chopper went on to accuse Fonzworth of failing to return a piece of jewelry worth $70,000 he was given by the rapper under the belief Fonzworth would safekeep the item.
“I asked him could he hold my chain [because] we had a show and he was like, ‘Yeah, I got you.’ And then he never quite gave me back my chain,” the southern wordsmith claimed. “And then every time I’d ask him, he always came up with beaucoup excuses of why I can’t get my chain.”
The lyricist pointed to that encounter as the moment he lost all trust in Bentley, with his alleged thievery becoming well-known within Combs’ orbit.
“Ever since then, I knew right then and there what kind of dude Mr. Bentley was,” Chopper said of the embattled mogul’s former underling.
“A f**king thief. Mr. Bentley is a f**king thief. Period. And that was his reputation too around there. Everybody knew Mr. Bentley was a thief. He used to steal sh*t.”
Chopper reasons that Bentley’s theft of his chain and other items could possibly be attributed to financial troubles from being underpaid by Combs, who he says displayed a lack of respect for Fonzworth.
“Maybe he was stealing sh*t because Diddy probably wasn’t compensating him—embarrassing the man on national TV and not really paying him what he needed to pay him,” the rapper surmised. “I don’t think Diddy had no respect for Mr. Bentley. None.”
Combs is currently incarcerated at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, N.Y. as he awaits trial on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges he was arrested on in September 2024.
The Bad Boy founder’s legal team has repeatedly requested that he receive bail, however, all attempts to procure his release have been denied.
