Former Tradwife Blasts Mormon Wives & 'The Lifestyle They're Promoting'!

2 weeks ago 2

Not everyone is a fan of the influencers and stars of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives!

A former Mormon tradewife is coming forward to talk about the “harsh realities” of the “dangerous” lifestyle and slamming all those who are happily promoting it — like the cast of the Hulu reality show. According to What’s The Jam on Tuesday, Jennie Gage left the church after 44 years of practicing the religion and her marriage of 24 years in October 2018. While it took her “a long time to recover” from losing her faith and husband, she has no regrets now:

“I can safely say, despite it all, leaving the tradwife lifestyle was the best decision of my life. I’ve just celebrated my six-year anniversary since leaving the Mormon church and losing my marriage – and I’m finally starting to find a new normal. It feels like it has taken so long to start to build a little life for myself after losing everything – but I’m slowly getting there.”

However, Jennie mentioned it was not “easy” to get to her “new normal.” She continued:

“Not long ago, I was crying in my car because I couldn’t afford groceries. We had to move out of the home we were renting from a family member, which was a huge shock and financial burden. It was very sad. Instead, my children and I moved into a tiny apartment, which we can barely afford.”

So awful. Despite struggling to stay on her feet, Jennie chooses to look on the bright side:

“I lost all my family when I left the church. Yes, I’ve had massive obstacles to overcome, but here I am, waking up in an apartment with a bed to sleep in and food in the fridge.”

Not only has the now 50-year-old remained positive about her situation but she wants to funnel more energy into helping other women, through a program to help women avoid and recover from the tradwife lifestyle called Man Proof Your Life. She also has been working to show the “true side” of being a tradwife and Mormonism on social media, in a documentary, and book about her life.

She is determined to make sure other women don’t fall down the path she was on for decades, which is why she cannot stand tradwife and Mormon influencers! In fact, she hates them! Whoa!

For those who don’t know, tradwives are women who embrace traditional gender roles. Think having babies and being the homemakers who cook, clean, and raise the kids. Meanwhile, their husbands act as the sole provider for the family. Lately, we have seen several Mormon tradwives become popular on TikTok — such as Nara Smith and Hannah Neeleman. The latter made headlines earlier this year when a profile from The Times of London exposed A LOT of her husband’s red flags. For instance, the outlet reported Hannah gets so sick from exhaustion that she can’t get out of bed for a week but he won’t allow her to get a nanny to help out with their 8 kids! So messed up. Yet Hannah said this profile misrepresented the lifestyle, insisting her and her husband are partners with everything!

And then, there are the stars of Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. While Jennie does not mention the show by name, it is safe to assume she is also calling out them due to how popular they all have become over the past few weeks! As you know, the show started after the soft swinging scandal involving cast member Taylor Frankie Paul and other Mormon mommies blew up on TikTok. Obviously, given how the series came about, this was not going to be your average show about a group of Mormons! They are breadwinners for their families due to their social media careers. They do not follow all of the rules of Mormonism, such as using laughing gas during their Botox appointments to get high! They are the complete opposite of tradwives! Even Jen Affleck, who is the most devout Mormon of the group, does not fit the mold entirely! (But just like Hannah, she has a walking red flag of a hubby!)

So why does Jennie “hate” them so much? You would think she would praise at least the reality stars for going against the norm of the tradwife Mormon culture, right? However, Jennie feels all of the social media personalities, including the Mormon Wives stars, are not showing the reality of what it means to be a tradwife woman and a woman in the Mormon church. She’s even afraid someone will think the lifestyle is a lot more progressive than it is — leading to “deadly” consequences. Oof. Jennie explained:

“These trad wives online aren’t actually trad wives at all. We were taught to stay at home, while the men earned all the money. But these ones are earning quite a lot, which goes against the beliefs we’re taught. They’re more dangerous than cigarettes, p*rn, or riding a motorcycle without a helmet. The lifestyle they’re promoting is potentially deadly and I hate them all.”
