Professional wrestlers have been surprisingly involved in the 2024 Presidential election, with multiple wrestlers showing support for former/future president Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris.
While this has been mostly civil, one former WWE Champion and AEW Superstar got wildly combative on social media, leading to the wrestler being pulled from an upcoming live event.
According to Nick Perkins of BodySlam.net, Jake Hager (Jack Swagger in WWE) began by ranting on X (formerly Twitter) about his support of Donald Trump and attacked fans because he said they were in favor of "kiling babies that are alive."
"Yes i am support Trump," read one post. "Yes im against killing babies. I guess that makes me a racist."
According to a report from Alex Hunt of ITR Wrestling, Hager additionally made claims that AEW President Tony Khan was a "communist" and attempted to "silence him" whenever he wanted to show his support of Trump.
"Do u want proof that @TonyKhan is a communist and threatened me to be silent or else?" Hager asked.
After a fan tagged Khan and Bryan Danielson, Hager made sure to respond.
"Tony khan is someone who threaten my job if i didnt stop promoting my trump. He js a communist," Hager said.
Hager finally ended his rant, saying, "I love all the pro wrestling fans that Think their educated."
In response, Blitzkrieg! Pro Wrestling, an independent promotion
"Jake Hagar will no longer be appearing on December 14th in Enfield, CT," Blitzkrieg said. "On top of sponsors no longer being willing to work with him, we also just have to do what we think is right for our roster and fans. We're going to get to work on a replacement asap."
In response, Hager has deleted all of his posts during this period. However, it looks like he's still upset since he shared a fan response in support of him.
There's no telling what this means for Hager's future, but it is unlikely that he will see much more support from the wrestling community because of this.
A former NCAA Division I All-American, Hager began his professional wrestling career with WWE in the developmental territories. After two years, he was moved to WWE ECW under the ring name Jack Swagger.
Hagers would soon be traded to the Raw brand where he would eventually use the Money in the Bank briefcase to cash in on Chris Jericho for the World Heavyweight Championship.
After teaming with Dolph Ziggler (now Nic Nemeth), Hager was paired with manager Zeb Colter as part of the Real Americans stable, a pro-American team that was heavily anti-immigration.
After 11 years with WWE and a few years with independent promotions, Hager came to AEW, once again teaming with Jericho. He would elect not to re-sign his contract in 2024.
