Galaxy S25 uses Snapdragon 8 Elite globally: ‘tailored’ for Gemini, adds satellite support

Samsung has officially confirmed that the Galaxy S25 series will be using the Snapdragon 8 Elite from Qualcomm in all regions, and with satellite connectivity too.

For years, Samsung would split the Galaxy S series into multiple variants that could be powered either by Snapdragon or Exynos chips depending on the region the device was sold. Users largely disliked this, as Exynos chips were infamously more prone to overheating problems and very random bugs and issues.

In 2023, Samsung reached a deal with Qualcomm to bring Snapdragon chips to every Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra across the globe. That only lasted one year, though, as the Galaxy S24 and S24+ ended up going back to the dual-chipset strategy. But, now, we’re back to Snapdragon-only.

Samsung and Qualcomm confirmed this week alongside the launch of the Galaxy S25 series that all of the new devices, – Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra – will be powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite in all regions.

Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. today announced the Snapdragon® 8 Elite Mobile Platform for Galaxy, uniquely customized in collaboration with Samsung to power the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra globally.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is a customized version of the 8 Elite, in part with the chip being “tailored” to Gemini experiences.

Qualcomm says:

Additionally, Qualcomm Technologies and Samsung collaborated closely to tailor the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy for the latest Gemini experiences. Whether it’s managing tasks between apps, livestreaming from the Gemini app, or using Gemini as a writing assistant, these experiences will run seamlessly and efficiently on Snapdragon.

Interestingly, Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy will also support Snapdragon Satellite, a program that Qualcomm killed over a year ago. Qualcomm says that the Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra are “the first commercial devices” with this feature which will allow users to “send and receive messages via satellite (narrowband NTN) natively supported in Android OS” in supported regions.
