Georgia Election Workers Request More Penalties Against Giuliani

Two ex-election workers in Georgia are asking a judge to issue further penalties against former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, saying that he continues to defame them with allegations of tampering with ballots in the 2020 presidential election.

Allegations Against Giuliani

Attorneys for Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Wandrea "Shaye" Moss, accused Giuliani of repeating false allegations against them during two recent episodes of his nightly show on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter. In a filing in U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., the women requested that the judge hold Giuliani in contempt and impose sanctions.

The two former Georgia election workers previously won a $148 million defamation case against Giuliani.

Joseph M. Cammarata, an attorney representing Giuliani, said Wednesday that he had not reviewed the court filing and was unable to address its specific allegations. However, he dismissed the move as an attempt to intimidate the former New York City mayor.

"We will not relent," Cammarata said at a news conference in New York City on Wednesday.

Cammarata also said that attorneys for Freeman and Moss are "doing everything in their power to break an 80-year-old patriot."

Defamation Case

Giuliani was found liable for defamation last year and ordered to pay $148 million to Freeman and Moss after accusing them of ballot tampering while promoting President-elect Donald Trump's debunked election fraud claims. The women reported receiving death threats following Giuliani's allegations that they smuggled ballots in suitcases, counted votes multiple times and manipulated voting machines.

In a court filing Wednesday, attorneys for Freeman and Moss accused Giuliani of referencing them once again during recent video broadcasts on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.

In their filing, they cited Giuliani as saying "they never let me show the tapes that show them quadruple counting the, the, the ballots."

The filing alleges that Giuliani claimed his video footage showed Freeman and Moss "passing these little little hard drives that we maintain were used to fix the machines right and they say it was candy."

Despite the $148 million defamation judgment against him, Freeman and Moss claim that Giuliani continues to spread false accusations against them. A U.S. District Court in Washington, D.C., has issued a permanent order prohibiting Giuliani from making any statements implying the women were involved in wrongdoing during the 2020 presidential election.

Giuliani's Response

Last month, Giuliani's son, Andrew Giuliani, attempted to block the election workers from seizing his father's New York Yankees World Series rings. In new court filings, Andrew Giuliani claims the rings belong to him, arguing they were gifted to him years ago.

Andrew Giuliani, who ran unsuccessfully for New York governor in 2022, claimed in federal court filings that his father gave him four World Series rings as a gift in 2018. He also stated that they had agreed the elder Giuliani would temporarily keep one of the rings to wear.
