Goldens Obsessed With Newborn Don't Understand Why They Can't Play With Her

A pair of golden retrievers can't get enough of their owner's newborn baby, with their love for the new arrival resulting in the family going viral.

Golden siblings Honey and Mustard live with their owner Katie, 33, who welcomed a baby girl earlier this year.

Now five months old, baby Makenzie has two ready-made best friends in the form of the two dogs, who Katie tells Newsweek have "been so loving toward her from day one".

"Even before she was born they would sit on my belly and constantly follow me around," Katie, from Melbourne, Australia, said.

The dogs' love for Makenzie is regularly shown in videos to their dedicated TikTok account, @goldenbabbie, and one video shared on August 23 illustrated what happens "when I try to create some separation."

Boasting 192,000 likes, it showed Makenzie in a deep sleep on the sofa—but all was not quiet, as Mustard was letting out a long, desperate whine, wanting to be as close to the baby as possible.

Both dogs were sitting at the other side of the couch, looking pleadingly at Katie with the ultimate puppy-dog eyes, as she told them: "She's sleeping, you can't play with her!"

Mustard took this as a challenge, and climbed up on the couch for a better look at the sleeping baby. She captioned the sweet clip: "I have 3 kids."

TikTok users loved the clip, with one commenter declaring: "I'm Mustard's lawyer. Mustard has the right to see the litol hooman!!! That's their sibling!"

"But that's ooooour baaaaaby," another joked, while one said: "They yearn to comfort the baby."

And more than one person compared Mustard's loud whine to the sound of a kazoo.

Katie told Newsweek that the older Makenzie gets, "the more they are loving her."

"Now she's reaching out to touch them it seems to make them very happy," she added.

Golden retrievers have long been one of the most popular dog breeds for families in the U.S. The breed is noted for their friendly and devoted nature, and in particular being affectionate toward their family and good with young children, according to the American Kennel Club (AKC).

Katie's TikTok channel has "grown so quickly" since she started posting her dogs' bond with her daughter, as she explained: "I started posting for fun because I thought it was too cute not to share! People seem to like it so we kept posting."
