Changes are coming to AMC‘s A-List that will give you more, but for more money.
AMC is raising prices for its AMC Stubs A-List movie subscription service, but with the higher monthly fee, subscribers will get access to see an additional movie each week. Changes to the plan will be effective May 7, just in time for summer movie season. CEO Adam Aron announced the changes in a letter to A-List members on Thursday, February 6.
Currently, A-List subscribers get to watch three movies a week, with prices for customers in New York and California at $24.95/month. AMC is raising that price to $27.99/month, and in other states where prices vary, monthly memberships will now cost between $19.99 to $25.99. However, the enhanced membership will allow for up to four visits per week, in every format, including Dolby Cinema and IMAX.
The revised A-List will also include a new in-app profile picture so that you don’t have to show a separate photo ID at the box office, and people as young as 13 can now become A-List members. Time to get some teenagers on the Nicole Kidman bandwagon.
“Even with this necessary price adjustment, in most cases the cost of an A-List membership will be less than seeing two movies per month as a non-member, especially so if you see a movie in our premium formats and/or buy your tickets online,” Aron wrote in his letter to members. “Further, your A-List membership will continue to offer the same great benefits you currently enjoy, such as free ticket reservations online, priority lane access, free popcorn and fountain drink size upgrades and $5 rewards for every $50 spent on tickets and concessions.”
For those unwilling to pay the higher fees, AMC is introducing a slimmer subscription package that will also launch on May 7: AMC A-List Classic. Under that plan, you only get one movie per week, but at $14.99/month+tax. That deal will only be available at normal AMC theaters as opposed to Dine-In options.
This change comes shortly after AMC introduced yet another new loyalty program tier: AMC Stubs Premiere GO! That plan is free, just like the most basic AMC Stubs loyalty program, but now you can earn double points on purchases and get additional perks — if you see at least eight movies in a calendar year.
AMC will report its quarterly earnings on February 25, when Aron is likely to further address some of these changes.
