Google and MediaTek Partners and Announces Chipset for Smart Home Devices

16 hours ago 5

We can’t deny that Smart Home devices are changing our lives in many ways, helping us in using less energy consumption and providing insights into energy use. Now Google and MediaTek together taking smart home devices and gadgets to the next level by launching a chipset that will improve the overall smart home ecosystem. Both companies partnered and introduced a new Filogic Chip dubbed MT7903 with support for Thread and Matter.

This will not only make Google Home devices much faster but will also improve consistency while connecting or commanding. The chipset is said to be coming in the first half of 2025. Google and MediaTek introduced the new chipset for smart home devices in order to “facilitate widespread adoption of Thread.”

Talking about the specifications, The Filogic chipset is equipped with Bluetooth 6, Tri-Band Wi-Fi 6, and IEEE 802.15.4. The IEEE 802.15.4 is a wireless protocol that’s used in smart home devices.

The partnership was announced at CES 2025 with a vision to accelerate the secure, reliable, and robust network with the help of Thread technology that creates a mesh network for smart home devices. The Thread protocol is faster and more efficient than Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. MediaTek is a world-renowned name in the chipset industry and while Google doesn’t make connectivity chipsets it’s obvious that the two leading names in different genres of the industry are coming together to bring a cut-above smart home device in the coming months.

The MT7903 Filogic Chip will be more energy efficient which means even if the device goes to sleep, the chip will remain awake and will be connected to your all smart home devices. It will not only save energy but will also remain alert at any point of command. While there’s no official price for the chipset, Mediatek says that it will design the Filogic chipset more affordable for manufacturers, giving them expansive options to integrate Thread into their devices.

To recall, Google has already integrated Thread in its Android 15 and the etch giant is now expanding it in smart home devices by making it easier to connect smart devices to your home.
