Google has rolled out a long-awaited update for its Find My Device app, introducing a biometric login option. This new feature, part of version 3.1.173-1, allows users to securely access the app using biometric authentication such as a fingerprint, face scan, or, alternatively, a PIN code. The update aims to enhance both security and user convenience, simplifying the login process.
Enhanced Security and Ease of Use
Previously, accessing Find My Device required users to input their Google account password whenever they opened the app. While there was a “Don’t ask again” option, this posed security risks since anyone with access to your unlocked phone could enter the app and manage your devices. The introduction of biometric login strikes a better balance between protecting your personal information and making the app easier to use. By leveraging biometric authentication, users can enjoy a faster and more secure login process without compromising their device’s safety.

In earlier versions, users could choose whether to enable biometric login, but with the latest update, this feature is automatically activated by default. This means that once you’ve set up biometric authentication or a screen lock on your device, you won’t need to re-enter your password each time. However, if biometric options are not configured, you’ll still need to enter your Google account password to gain access.
