Google Quick Share widely rolling out QR code sharing

Following the announcement in December, Google is widely rolling out QR code-based sharing in Quick Share on Android.

After tapping the Quick Share target in the system sheet and getting the fullscreen UI, you’ll see a new “Use QR code” option in the Send to nearby devices box.

This will slide up a sheet with a Quick Share-branded QR code as your screen automatically brightens. At the bottom, you’ll see what and how many files you are sending.

Google explains how you should “Ask the other people to scan with their Android device.” This results in a quickshare.google link that immediately opens up the Connecting/Receiving… sheet to begin the transfer process.

The QR code can be read by multiple devices. To use this option, you don’t have to “add [anyone] as a contact, verify devices, or change your sharing settings.”

We’re seeing QR code-based Quick Share widely rolling out today with version 24.49.33 of Google Play services.
