In 2024, the wives and girlfriends of professional athletes—also known as WAGs—are more than just an extension of their partner or a trophy item sitting in the stands. They’re superstar performers, olympians, entrepreneurs, influencers, and more. If you took our Guess the WAG quiz on Instagram, keep reading for the correct answers. And if you didn't? Head over to test your knowledge now. And be sure to read all of our WAG Week content here.
WAG 1: Simone Biles
The greatest gymnast of all time, Biles, 27, is obviously more than a WAG (as are all the women we've covered this week) but she has been married to Chicago Bears safety Johnathan Owens since 2023. Owens caught some heat last year for comments he made indicating that he was the catch in the relationship during an interview on "The Pivot" podcast. He also had said he'd never heard of Biles, the most decorated gymnast in history, after they matched on dating app Raya in 2020.
In the third episode of her Netflix doc Simone Biles Rising, the athlete defended her husband, saying his comments were “taken out of context." She also shared how her fans reviled him, often posting negative things about him on social media. “They equate our love to the amount of trophies and medals and accolades that I have, and that’s not how you measure love," she continued. "That’s doesn’t equate to how much my husband loves me or likes me."
WAG 2: Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift, 34, has been in a (very) public relationship with Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, 35, since the summer of 2023. In between stops on her Eras tour, Swift has made headlines for her game-day outfits and her enthusiastic support of her man—and has boosted visibility for NFL in the process. Since Swift began dating Kelce, the league saw explosive growth in fandom among women, who are engaging with the NFL and its content like never before. On Instagram, a spokesperson for the NFL told Glamour, the league grew its following among women by 21% in the past year, and women accounted for almost half of the NFL’s new social media followers overall.
The fervor has also translated to ticket sales. A spokesperson for StubHub told Glamour that in the 24 hours after Swift first appeared at a Chiefs game, the platform saw the team’s ticket sales triple. Since then, the Chiefs have become the 10th best-selling team in the NFL (up from 2013 pre-Swift) and the second best-selling team on the road.
WAG 3: Ciara
Grammy winner Ciara, 39, has been married to professional football player and entrepreneur Russel Wilson, 35, since 2016. They have three kids together— daughter Sienna Princess, 7, son Win Harrison, 3, and daughter Amora Princess, almost 1. Ciara also shares son Future Zahir, 9 with ex-fiancé, rapper Future. Over the years, Ciara—a superstar in her own right—and has been vocal about her support for Wilson's career, most recently appearing on The Jennifer Hudson Show to discuss her recent move from L.A. to Pennsylvania, after Wilson signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers as quarterback.
WAG 4: Victoria Beckham
The OG WAG, Victoria Beckham—former Spice Girl, fashion designer, beauty mogul, all-around icon—has been married to British soccer legend David Beckham since 1999. The couple share four kids, Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper. Throughout the early 2000s, Victoria (aka Posh Spice) was one of the most photographed women on earth, an incessant tabloid fixture, and helped usher in the term WAG.
