Congratulations are in order for Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who gave birth to baby No. 1 with boyfriend Ken Urker.
Gypsy, 33, told TMZ on Wednesday, January 1, that she and Ken, 31, welcomed daughter Aurora Urker in Louisiana on December 28, the one-year anniversary of Gypsy’s release from prison on parole.
“Aurora is healthy and we are so happy,” Ken told the outlet.
Gypsy announced she was expecting their first child in July. “I’m happy to announce that I am 11 weeks pregnant. Ken and I are expecting our very first child come January of 2025,” she told her fans in a video posted via YouTube. “We’re both very excited. This was not planned at all. It was completely unexpected.”
After noting that she and Ken were “very excited to take on this new journey of parenthood,” she shared that she had “experienced the symptoms” of pregnancy even before she learned that she was expecting.
“Of course, I missed my period and I didn’t think anything of it because I had seen my OBGYN and I had tested my fertility and she’s like, ‘We’re probably gonna have to put you on fertility meds, or at least something to make you ovulate, because you’re not ovulating on a regular [basis],’” she recalled, adding that Ken urged her to take a pregnancy test once she told him that she missed her period.
The Louisiana native made the most of her pregnancy journey, and shared frequent updates with fans about how it was going. Not only did she regularly share photos of her growing baby bump, but Gypsy and Ken also opened up about her pregnancy while appearing on an October episode of Nick Viall’s “The Viall Files.”
During the podcast episode, Gypsy admitted it made her sad knowing that her late mother, Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard, will never get to know her daughter. “For me, it is heartbreaking because I do, from time to time, think about what could have been, and it makes me sad,” she said at the time. “So, I kind of put that in the back of my mind.”
Gypsy went on to note that she had seen “questions on social media” regarding how she’s “gonna tell [her] daughter” why Dee Dee isn’t alive. “My response to them is that [stepmom] Kristy [Blanchard] has become more of a mother to me than my own mother was,” she explained, adding that “Kristy is going to be grandma” to her child.
She initially made headlines when she and her then-boyfriend, Nicholas Godejohn, were found guilty of killing Dee Dee in 2015. Gypsy was released early from prison in December 2023, while Nicholas, 35, is currently serving a life sentence without parole for his involvement in the murder.
It’s believed that Gypsy killed Dee Dee due to the years of abuse she suffered at the hands of her mother. Dee Dee likely suffered from Munchausen syndrome by proxy, which is a psychological disorder that’s “marked by attention-seeking behavior by a caregiver through those who are in their care,” according to WebMD.
During the same podcast appearance, Ken shared his reaction to learning about the pregnancy shortly after they reconciled. “I would agree with the sentiment that, yes, it was very much too soon,” he said. “At the same time, it’s a child. It’s a blessing. I think I had a whole cocktail of emotions in that moment, and I think I needed a minute to process. Even after the initial shock, I was, like, [telling Gypsy,] ‘Let me call you back in like 10 minutes. I felt like I just needed to walk around and breathe for a minute.”
