After a months-long manhunt, Ryan Borgwardt is officially back in the US — in police custody!
If the name doesn’t immediately ring a bell, his disgusting actions might. He’s the guy who faked his death in a kayaking incident in Green Lake, Wisconsin back in August. He mystifyingly left behind his wife of 22 years and three kids to flee the country for a woman in Uzbekistan he’d been chatting with online… But instead of just breaking the news to his family directly and divorcing his wife, he went the “fake my own death” route.
Last month, the Green Lake County Sheriff’s Office managed to establish contact with him and learned he was “safe, secure,” and living in an apartment somewhere in Eastern Europe. He fessed up to EVERYTHING — the whole intricate plan he meticulously crafted — but refused to contact his worried family. This effing guy… Still, the PD urged Ryan to come home… And he now has!

On Wednesday, Sheriff Mark Podoll revealed in a press conference:
“On December 10, Ryan arrived on US soil. He was then booked into the correctional facility and is awaiting his initial court appearance.”
Whoa!
Podoll noted Ryan came back willingly and turned himself into the police department after having “near daily contact.” The sheriff noted the law enforcement team was “pulling at his heartstrings” to come home, and we’re guessing things didn’t work out with that Uzbek homewrecker because it worked! He agreed to come home. Well, not home. He’s probably going to prison.
Yeah, dear ol’ dad didn’t exactly arrive back in the States to hugs and warm cookies… The formerly missing person now faces “a number of charges” including “obstruction,” according to Podoll. Yikes… That’s what you get when you elaborately fake your death! As of now, it’s not clear whether Ryan has contacted his family since arriving home.
Of the relentless efforts of the PD, the sheriff added:
“I could not be more proud of them and what they did for a family, we didn’t give up and we can stand here today feeling relieved.”
